First Day of School Sign Craft
To help on this project, we enlisted master crafter Karimah Henry from the site craftingafunlife.com. I love that this project is simple to assemble and really safe. Make this simple and sweet yarn craft at home with your kids using recycled materials.
Once again, we're starting with the idea that upcycling is the place to start. This is a great way to use cardboard that you have in your house.

First Day of School Sign Craft Supplies
- Recycled cardboard
- Paint (red & green)
- Foam brushes
- Stickers
- Hot glue gun with glue sticks
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Tape
- Yarn, ribbon or twine
- Paper plate
Momtrends Tip: Keep crafting supplies on hand. I recommend a stash of foam brushes and a hot glue gun for starters. You can get these on Amazon (note: these are Amazon Affiliate links).

First Day of School Sign Craft Directions
- First, use a pencil to draw an apple on recycled cardboard. You can draw the stem and leaf separately.
- Next, use scissors to cut out the apple parts.
- Now it’s time to paint your apple. The leaf is green and the apple is red. Set it aside to dry.
- Once your apple is completely dry, start personalizing it using the stickers. It can say “First Day of School” or “First Day of Kindergarten” or whichever grade represents your child.
- Finally, cut a piece of yard, ribbon or twine then tape at the back of the apple to create your DIY sign for pictures.
