While this summer has definitely been the summer of road trips and nearby vacation destinations, families can still find lots of exciting activities around Seattle this month. We’ve got our eye on a chance to trick out scooters, skates and bikes along Alki and an outdoor children’s production that’ll leave you “howling.” Here are the Emerald City highlights for mid-August.

Pacific Northwest Chalk Fest
It’s time for the annual PNW ChalkFest! This event attracts people from all over the western U.S. who can’t wait to see the sidewalk masterpieces created by local and not-so-local artists. Additionally, Redmond Town Center provides the perfect location for the artists and the audience to experience the event in style. Be sure to stop by the Children’s Chalk Garden while you’re there. Storybook in the Park
Studio East is staging The Boy Who Cried Wolf (presented by Google) at Juanita Beach Park this weekend. Shepherd-boy Sam is tired of watching sheep all day and wants some excitement in his life. One day, he decides to shake things up by yelling “Help! A wolf!” just for fun. The villagers come running, only to discover that Sam has pulled the wool over their eyes. Is telling the truth all it’s cracked up to be? And what will happen when a wolf really does appear? Performances at 11 a.m. & 1 p.m. each day. Sat. & Sun. Event details.

Families are invited to join Kirkland Urban for a beach-themed KU Kids event.
