My kids were so thrilled to try this Squirt Gun T-Shirt Painting Activity! It’s the perfect outdoor craft that both girls and boys will love. Your children will have a blast customizing their colors and designs.
How to do Squirt Gun T-Shirt Painting
First, you’ll need: white t-shirts, squirt guns, food coloring, and water. I have also seen people use Kool Aid packets to color the water, but food coloring produces much more vibrant colors, in my opinion! Next, you’ll squirt the food coloring inside the squirt gun and fill it with water. Shake it gently to mix the food coloring and the water together. Finally, you’re all ready to paint the t-shirts!
When your kids are doing a Squirt Gun T-Shirt Painting activity, the kind of squirt guns don’t really matter. I bought four of these for under a dollar at my local supercenter. I bought really inexpensive squirt guns because I planned to either throw them away after this activity or save them only to use for more painting activities in the future. I don’t want any residual dye inside the gun accidentally painting something we don’t want painted! Perhaps you could get all of the dye out of the guns with warm water and soap, but I really don’t want to chance it.
Next, your kids will begin squirting all of the colors on their t-shirt. I let my kids do this outside, because it is really easy to misfire and accidentally squirt the paint off of the t-shirt!
Choosing how you want to paint on the colors is the most fun part! There is really no right or wrong way to do this!
Look at all of the fun colors! This has been my children’s favorite summer activity so far! The options are really limitless. After your kids are done squirting on all of their colors, let them dry. Finally, I recommend ironing the shirt so the colors really set into the fabric.

- White T-Shirt
- Squirt Guns
- Water
- Food Coloring

Instructions
- Squirt food coloring into squirt gun and fill the rest of the way with water.
- Next, gently shake to mix the food coloring and the water. Do this for all colors.
- After that, lay a white t-shirt flat on the ground in the grass.
- Squirt the t-shirt in whatever designs and colors you'd like.
- Next, let dry in the sun for 30 minutes.
- Lastly, iron the colors into the shirt so they will not wash out!
