This delicious stuffed crust pizza is one of our favorite homemade meals. A quick from scratch dough is stuffed with cheese before sauce and toppings and more cheese are added and then baked. For the dough:

  • 1 cup warm water
  • teaspoon sugar
  • 1 package yeast
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • teaspoon garlic powder

For the stuffed crust:

  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • teaspoon garlic powder
  • 8 whole milk mozzarella cheese sticks cut into 1-inch pieces

For the toppings:

  • Pizza sauce
  • pepperoni
  • 1 spicy sausage link, cooked
  • 5 strips of cooked bacon, chopped
  • jalapeno, sliced
  • 2 small peppers, sliced
  • 1/3 cup ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella

How to Make Stuffed Crust Pizza

STEP ONE: In a small measuring cup, add warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit until yeast starts to bubble and activate.

PRO TIP: The warm water should be approximately 80 degrees.

STEP TWO: Pour the above mixture into the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook. Add 2 cups of flour, salt, butter, and garlic powder.

STEP THREE: Turn the mixer on and mix until the dough starts to come together. Add remaining dough and mix until all the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl.Cover and let rise for 1 hour or until doubles in size.

STEP FOUR: Preheat oven with cooking stone inside to 450 degrees.

STEP FIVE: On a well-floured surface, roll the dough into a 16-inch circle. Transfer to a well-floured pizza paddle.

PRO TIP:If you do not have a stone or a pizza paddle use a round pizza pan and assemble your pizza directly on the pan after youve rolled it out.

How to Make a Stuffed Crust Pizza Crust

STEP SIX: Place the pieces of cheese stick around the edge of the dough and pull the edges of the dough over the top of the cheese stick and press to seal.

PRO TIP: If the dough is having trouble sticking, wet the dough with additional butter to let it stick.

STEP SEVEN:Assemble your pizza by spreading sauce, cheese, and desired toppings over the top.Mix melted butter and garlic powder together and brush the edges with the butter.

How Long to Bake Stuffed Crust Pizza

STEP EIGHT:Gently transfer the pizza from the paddle onto the hot stone. Bake for 10-14 minutes. Remove the pizza from the oven. Let cool slightly and slice in 8 pieces.

You can sprinkle with extra Parmesan and crushed red pepper flakes before serving if youd like.
